Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 10, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Contest Bell ("Contest Bell", "we", "us", or "our"). Contest Bell is a service designed to help competitive programmers keep track of programming contests and receive timely notifications about upcoming contests.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we handle information when you use Contest Bell.
2. Information We Collect
When you create and use a Contest Bell account, we may collect and store the following information:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your account password in securely hashed form
- Your selected timezone
- Your account creation date
- Your email verification status
We also store certain temporary security information, such as email verification tokens and password-reset tokens, when required for account verification and password recovery.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information associated with your account to provide and operate Contest Bell, including:
- Creating and managing your Contest Bell account
- Verifying your email address
- Authenticating you when you log in
- Allowing you to reset your password
- Sending contest notifications to your email address
- Applying your selected contest platforms and divisions
- Using your timezone where required for contest-related features
4. Email Notifications
Contest Bell uses your email address to send account-related emails and contest notifications that are part of the service.
These may include email verification messages, password-reset messages, and notifications about programming contests based on your selected subscriptions and preferences.
5. Google Calendar Integration
Contest Bell provides an optional Google Calendar integration. Connecting Google Calendar is entirely optional.
If you choose to connect your Google Calendar, Contest Bell uses Google's OAuth authorization process to request permission to create contest events in your Google Calendar.
Contest Bell uses the Google Calendar permission to create calendar events containing information such as the contest name, platform, division, contest link, start time, and duration.
Contest Bell does not require you to connect Google Calendar in order to use the core contest notification service.
6. Google OAuth Tokens
When you connect Google Calendar, Contest Bell receives OAuth credentials from Google that allow the service to maintain the authorized Calendar connection.
These credentials are stored in your Contest Bell account and are used to access Google Calendar on your behalf for the functionality you have authorized.
You can disconnect Google Calendar from your Contest Bell account. When you disconnect it through Contest Bell, the Google Calendar credentials stored in your Contest Bell account are removed and the Calendar connection is marked as disconnected.
7. Password Security
Contest Bell does not store your account password as plain text. Passwords are processed using a password hashing mechanism before being stored.
Password-reset requests use temporary reset tokens, and reset tokens are designed to expire after a limited period.
8. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
Contest Bell may use third-party services required to operate specific features of the service, such as email delivery, application hosting, database hosting, and Google Calendar integration.
Information shared with such services is limited to what is necessary for the relevant functionality.
9. Data Retention
We retain account information for as long as necessary to provide Contest Bell and its related functionality, unless deletion is requested or a different retention period is required for a legitimate operational or legal reason.
Temporary verification and password-reset information is used for its intended purpose and is removed when it is no longer required for that purpose.
10. Disconnecting Google Calendar
You can disconnect Google Calendar from your Contest Bell account at any time using the Calendar disconnect functionality provided by Contest Bell.
Disconnecting Google Calendar removes the Google access and refresh credentials stored by Contest Bell for your account and prevents Contest Bell from continuing to use that stored authorization.
11. Account and Data Deletion
If you would like to request deletion of your Contest Bell account or personal information, please contact us using the email address provided below.
We will review and process reasonable deletion requests subject to any information that we may be required to retain for legitimate operational or legal purposes.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Contest Bell evolves or as our practices change.
Any updated version will be published on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
